A Recent Family Win-March 2019
The [Lyon] family just completed our program. When the Lyon family started our program in March of 2018, Mom and Dad were both homeless. They were both abusing drugs and had just been evicted from their home. Mom was pregnant and still using drugs. Neither parent was employed.
Since then, they have both completed substance abuse programs and are now in aftercare with those programs. Mom and Dad both began our Supervised Visitation program so that they could begin visiting with their five children. Although they were getting one on one parent coaching before and after each visit to improve their parenting skills, they concurrently enrolled into our evidence-based, weekly Group Parenting Classes. Mom completed parenting class through SAFFT. Dad was incarcerated for a brief period so he finished a parenting through his Substance Abuse program.
Today, they both have full time jobs and have been drug-free since July 2018, as confirmed through our random drug screens as a part of our Supervised Visitation program. They also now have safe housing! Three of the children got to spend the night in the house for 2 nights last week when the foster parents had an emergency come up and had to go out of town. The parents have now been granted unsupervised visitation by the court and the children should be returned home permanently by April. The parents never canceled or missed a visit with SAFFT and their hardwork has paid off!
The Lyons are just one of thousands of families SAFFT has helped over the years. These are the kinds of wins that your generous donations support! We get to break the awful cycle of child abuse and neglect broken by equipping families with the tools they need while providing a safe, nurturing environment for them to visit with their children while they are in foster care.
